isolation, each apart from the others. Talking with the collectors
lending to the exhibition and to the staff and trustees of the
Cape Cod Museum of Art who were also at the opening, he
began to envisage an exhibition covering the history of the
Provincetown art colony from its inception in 1899 to the
present.
The result of Hyland���s inspiration and direction and his then
Assistant Curator Alexander Noelle���s research is The Tides
of Provincetown, which focuses on Provincetown as an art
colony (in 1916, the Boston Globe declared it the ���Biggest Art
Colony in the World���) and covers over 100 artists and as many
