Max Bohm���s Mother and Children
In the early summer of 2010 Douglas K. S. Hyland, Director
of the New Britain Museum of American Art, was invited to
Boston to attend the opening of an exhibition at the St. Botolph
Club, the same institution which had given Claude Monet his
first exhibition in the United States. The exhibition he saw
was Glimpses of a Provincetown Collection, focusing on work
by artists over the last century and a half associated with this
Massachusetts town located at the end of a huge sandy cape,
extending out into the North Atlantic.
Hyland recognized the names of all the artists represented,
realizing their common association with Provincetown, but
