reside, with an array of furniture styles and periods,
under low ceilings with moderately scaled windows and
rooms. Both period, centennial and no-nonsense ���hand
me downs��� as Elizabeth Hunter calls them exist with a
few dozen good Oriental rugs. The latter are arranged
in both helter-skelter and purposeful placement,
occasionally touching and overlapping. They serve as
much as ornament, prestige possession as they do
practical defense against drafts, cats and muddy boots.
