contrived, the Patmian lace curtains, wide, long beams
and floor planks, steep stairs and ladders, Greek blue
shutters, pitted mirrors and iron beds belong there. The
occasional contemporary artwork aside, a nineteenth
century Patmian sea captain who would have lived in
this prosperous section of the village would know this
house. It is about time travel rather than holiday travel. It
is about continuity.
Lo, these many years the garden has grown. I have not
been there of late. Imagining what it has become sustains
the hope of being there again. H
