Robert Motherwell���s Elegy with Opening, 1984
The development of the town over time easily explains the
inclusion of Jack Pierson���s Self-Portrait #6 as one of the few
photographs in the exhibition. Pierson is an internationally
known photographer, included in the Whitney Biennial more
than once. This self-portrait is in line with Pierson���s interest in
exploring themes of individuality, social awareness and sexuality
within the context of the gay community.
Today, the observant visitor to Provincetown will view dozens
of art galleries, encountering in them scores of art exhibitions
held each year and the large and vibrant art community that
continues to populate Provincetown. Now, literally a mecca for
the American melting pot, collectors, artists, writers, intellectuals
