eight key statements. Albert Hadley was a gentleman through and through, chivalrous, gracious, intellectual and humble. October 12th, the evening of the 5th Annual Stars of Design, commanded a very distinguished audience, all there to celebrate the life and career of Albert Hadley. Later, on Friday March 29, something urged me to pick up the phone and call Britt Smith. We had spoken a few weeks prior, touching base on how Mr. Hadley was holding up and about arranging a coffee or lunch. The moment I picked up the phone and dialed a distressed voice came onto the line. It was Britt. When I asked what had happened he responded clearly that Albert Hadley had just passed away. There are so many who knew him much better than I, but what I learned from him and about myself during my brief encounters is invaluable. Albert Hadley will forever be immortalized in our hearts and our minds and through the stories that we share. He is a true legend whose spirit will continue to live on through everyone he touched and through the generation of talented designers emerging today. H N.B. HYLAND thanks Charles Cohen for his many efforts in acknowledging the importance of Albert Hadley within the history of design through the Stars of Design Awards. HYLAND thanks the late Albert Hadley, the D & D building office and the National Design Museum for contributing the content through the author that made this article possible in conjunction with the Stars of Design Awards.
