The Ancient Tree, Argotti Gardens, Valletta
Williss paintings, for all their delicacy, share the force
and ambition one perceives in her grandfathers work.
It might be said that Willis is less experimental in the
matter of style; she is certain of where she belongs in the
lexicon of fine art, and there she firmly resides, creating
her virtuoso worlds on paper. She is one part Canaletto,
another part Bemelsman, and yet, she is totally herself,
she has her very own hand, her very own watercolor
mark. The strength of that hand is what unites her to the
strength exuded in her grandfathers oils. She achieves
the architectural rendition of buildings without saccharine
hand, but with enough of the bold modern Impressionist
to infuse them with dynamism.
