his presidency. It was particularly enjoyable to be invited by
current President, His Excellency George Abela, to visit him
at San Anton. I recalled, almost immediately, his role as a
leader of Malta football whose matches I attended in the mideighties at the old national football field at Ta��� ali. I���m quite
sure that I met him at that time. Marica Mizzi, Presidential
Communications Director, joined us at the meeting.
After President Abela thoughtfully guided me on a tour of the
palace, he also graciously organized a guided tour of Verdala
Palace, the Presidential summer residence, with my old friend,
restoration expert and artist, Sac. Charles Vella. Both San
Anton and Verdala Palaces look better than ever. President
Abela has brought great vitality to his office.
