The upper part of Fort Saint Angelo, under a long lease, now
flies both the flag of the Republic of Malta and the flag of the
Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem,
of Rhodes, and of Malta on its highest battlement. A moving and
fitting ceremony marked the occasion.
It remains, still, for Fort Saint Angelo and the Mediterranean
Conference Center across Grand Harbor, the hotels, museums,
churches and pilgrim sites, and, yes, sporting and dining destinations
to be full of people on an ongoing basis with Knights, their families
and friends from around the world. There are treasures from maps
to a wide range of art and artifacts that would benefit from even
more exhibitions and scholarship. There are conferences that
could be convened devoted to peace, to alleviating the plight of
