His preeminence and power was so
substantial in Malta that everyone
referred to the former Prime Minister
as simply ���Mintoff���, much like one
says ���Lincoln���. He is a formidable
personality with an inquisitive
mind, wishing to know everything
possible about each of us. Mintoff
seemed both amused and a bit
taken aback by the candor of our
comments. My then brother-inlaw knew much about international
trade, especially in minerals, my
