the landing at the top of the stairs are two curious iron
and leather chairs, the leather woven in strips, which
were designed by Ross Littell in 1968. Together with the
tall 1940���s shagreen lamps, these pieces announce an
assertive modernist note in a house that is otherwise all
Palladian with an interesting amalgamation of Europe
and Asia that reminds me of Lutyens.
The double height living room is the Meade House���s
undoubted tour de force. Its upper and lower sets of
windows are satisfyingly mullioned. The walls are tinted
a delicate, pale stone color using a French plaster
