I
n front of a gathering of Time Magazines One
Hundred Most Influential People in the World Secretary
of State Hillary Clinton commented that every country
she visited wanted her to run
for President. She opened
her speech according to a
report by correspondents
Ian Mohr and Stephanie
Smith of the New York Post,
by saying, Welcome to my
announcement to run for
President of Malta.
Secretary Clinton would
have a difficult time doing
so because the President
of Malta is appointed
and because the current
President, George Abela,
has among the highest
popularity ratings of any
head of state in the world.
He comes to the position
The President and First Lady with
Archpriest Richard Borg of Saint Publius. as the first ever cross-party
appointment in the history
of the Maltese presidency. And, however small Malta is
geographically, it and its citizens are often a compelling
presence on the world stage.
