Grand Rotunda

ippa Toledo was given an aesthetically and civically
important design brief: she would reenvision the Grand
Master���s Hall and the Grand Rotunda adjacent to it at
San Anton Palace, the preeminent room in the principal
residence of the President of Malta.
In the great entrance hall of the early Clinton White
House, just after dancing with the First Lady, I had my
last conversation with the late brilliant American designer,
Mark Hampton. I told him what a splendid job he did
decorating the Oval Office, which I had seen during a
visit with President Clinton just before Mark���s work would
