Aperture Foundation, founded in 1952 by iconic figures of 20th century photography, Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, Barbara Morgan and Minor White. Wanting to commission a body of photography depicting the complexity of human personality, the various stages of life and the central role of the divine in human experience in a singular, unprecedented way, I commissioned Bill Armstrong to do a triptych of Thomas Jefferson, or more precisely, three principal personalities of Thomas Jefferson, arguably a first in the history of photography. A set of these images will soon hang in the study of the President of Malta at San Anton Palace. I recalled Benedict XVI���s request for contemporary art, so I commissioned a triptych of The Last Supper, since accepted by His Holiness and now in the Vatican Museum. An abstraction of Copley���s Watson Being Rescued From the Shark in Havana Harbor followed, in memory of the Von L. Meyer sisters, whose mother donated the Copley to the Museum of Fine Art in Boston in memory of their father. Then came a triptych of Three Athletes to commemorate the Olympics, particularly the London Olympics, 2012. These last images would be my homage as a collector to England where part of my photographic collection will be on exhibit during the Olympics at the American Museum in Britain, the only American museum outside the United HYLAND
