Later that day at St. John���s co-cathedral, just after we viewed
Caravaggio���s iconic masterpiece depicting the beheading of Saint
John the Baptist, I prayed in the main nave of the cathedral.
Memorials to hundreds of knights surrounded me on the floor,
columns, and walls, in every direction. It was transformational.
���There,��� I thought, ���the idea is out, perhaps in the future I will
read that something has occurred. Perhaps I will pick up a copy
of the New York Times and read that Fort Saint Angelo has been
returned to the Knights. Dear Lord, guide this on.��� If the proposal
didn���t wend its way to fruition, I felt sure that another opportunity
would arise.
No sooner had I left Malta than Prime Minister Mifsud Bonici
requested that Joe Grima, his Minister of Tourism, contact
me, requesting that I return to Malta to assist the Minister in
HYLAND
