main residence he made ambitious additions: a new
kitchen, mudroom, breezeway, garage, hunting room,
exercise room and indoor pool. The amalgamation of
architectural, engineering, grading and land planning are
nowadays infrequently assigned to a single firm. This
multitude of varying tasks might have seemed routine
to an eighteenth century landowner but today would be
daunting to most architectural practices. At Mount Fair,
in Finlay's hands, they were flawlessly conceived and
executed.
Finlay also transformed the old ice house and spring
house into two one-bedroom guest cottages with full
