living, and, perhaps most impressively, the design of new
buildings from scratch, often ones which, as here, must
cohabit seamlessly with older architecture. His facelift
of Mount Fair's Greek Revival manor house, circa 1829,
and combined guest house and stables provide the
client with all the satisfaction of inhabiting, decoratively
speaking, an early American house while living with all
the comforts latter-day technology can provide. As the
photographs of the stables attest, even the owner's
horses enjoy (with a nod to William Blake) the fearful
symmetry of their quarters, while reposing in the comfort
of state of the art geothermal climate control.
The history of Mount Fair is weighty, hence the inscription
