Last month we tried a dozen
Prosecco sparkling wines. All were
low alcohol, 11 to 11.5 % (California
reds are now routinely over 15%
which makes a huge difference
if you have to drive). None were
vintage. Bubbles varied. Some of
the wines were foamy on pouring
while others have a saccharine
aftertaste which to our palates is
off putting. The Ruffino was simply
disgusting—sinks like a stone
in your throat while Cupcake, a
brand offering many varieties—we
tried a New Zealand Sauvignon
Blanc by the same company—
distinguished itself by being both
incredibly foamy and having an
artificial sweetener aftertaste. Damn
brand is going to give Twinkies a
bad name. Mionetto had a hint of
orange soda/artificial sweetener
and looked like a beer losing its
