At the north end of Antigua, which has for a generation
experienced a revival, a new gated development, Las
Granileas, resembling the city's original colonial architecture—
in the best new urbanist tradition—has taken root. At the
center of this secure neighborhood is a small hotel.
La Posada de los Leones (the Lions' Inn) was built to precise
standards, inspired by the plans of a now destroyed 18th
century Antigua mansion, originally erected for Don Felipe
Ruiz de Corral. He was the inspiration of a fictional biography
by Jorge Garcia Granados; his resurrected house is a jewel.
