ants marching along plant stalks while howler monkeys
wandered overhead among the breezes of the forest
canopy. Our horses bolted down riverbanks, splashed
through streams, and meandered through paths of dappled shade.
Eventually, as we plunged through the forest, the trees
gave way to grassy fields, many enclosed and filled with
cattle. These fields led us to a final ascent up a large hill, at
the top of which the ocean came into view. There the wind
was strong and refreshing. Our horses galloped toward
the beach, a gloriously empty, broad stretch of sand, the
