finger against Krushchev's lapel,
was telling him to get Soviet missiles
out of Western Europe. But he
was saying, 'eat your wheaties.'"
Buhl understands profoundly the
complex psychology and implicit
menace that surface when we
know who the characters in a
photograph are. The action
depicted, no matter however
seemingly benign, takes on much
stronger meaning.
Virtually each of the photographs,
all depicting hands, in Henry Buhl's
collection has a compelling story.
With well over a thousand images,
more than likely, in the aggregate
it is the largest assemblage of
its kind in the world. Treasures
from this collection will be sold at
Sotheby's in December 2012.
