J oe Collins founded From Houses to Homes, a New Jersey, USA based non-profit 501(c)(3) in 2004. He was moved to do so by the poverty of indigenous Guatemalans who live in the highlands of that country. So far, he and his volunteers have built nearly six hundred houses. Each domicile, now costing $1,750.00, is 13 feet by 19 feet, constructed of concrete blocks with a cement floor, corrugated roof, skylight, metal window and door frames with lock. There are bunk beds and both the interior and exterior are stuccoed with paint, the color chosen by the owner. Joe and hundreds of volunteers receive no salaries when working together with families to construct, block by block, these houses from the ground up. HYLAND
