The Basslers lived, always, as hard-working art teachers
rather than expatriates, giving back to whatever community their artistic mission took them to. I wish I could
return to the unquestioning pleasure of the days I spent
in their house, at the loom, in their garden, or at their
bountiful table. H
Lisa Zeiger
is an art and design historian with degrees from Barnard, Columbia and the University of Glasgow. She also
studied for one year at Sotheby's London. While living
in Scotland and Germany, she wrote extensive art criticism and reportage for Apollo and The Art Newspaper.
She was Decorative Arts Editor of Nest Magazine, and is
currently at work on a memoir, The Beauty of the Bronx.
