buildings as well as a generous caretaker's cottage. A
one-acre sector of land was allocated for a solar field,
planned to power all the buildings at Mount Fair. The
latter is an innovation Thomas Jefferson, founder of the
University of Virginia, would have championed.
In summation of his own monumental work, Finlay
remarks, "This is the fourth house I've done for these
clients. The family is going back to their southern roots.
What better way than to return to Mount Fair, the
residence of the first Dean of Architecture at Jefferson's
