At 228 West 10th Street sits L���Artusi with a clientele that complements
the already handsome interior. Its sweeping bar offers an ideal space
for dinner with a friend with a view into an open kitchen where chefs
busily recreate Italian masterpieces. This experience can evoke pangs
of hunger: I will order the day boat scallop crudo with no intention
of sharing. When scouring the menu, divided into Crudo, Verdura,
Pasta, Pesce, and Carne, I encourage new initiates to start with a
salad, my favorite gauge for any locale���s worth. Standouts include
the roasted mushroom salad with pancetta atop fried egg and ricotta
salata and a butter lettuce plate with lemon crema, gorgonzola,
olives and hazelnut. Finally, I round things out with the garganelli with
mushroom ragu or the spaghetti with garlic, parmesan, and chili.
