school of painting���and the chance gathering of so many
like-minded artists���the results of this artistic period are
remarkable.
Emil Bisttram, Raymond Johnson, Robert Gribbroek,
Stewart Walker, Horace Towner Pierce, Florence Miller
Pierce, Agnes Pelton, William Lumpkins and Lawren Harris
make up the group. The artists Piet Mondrian and Wasily
Kandinsky, philosopher Nicholas Roerich and Theosophy
provided an aesthetic and intellectual foundation for the
group. The horrors of the Great Depression and World War
I moved these artists to erect upon that foundation works
tapping into a visual aesthetic revealing a spiritual world.
