n Beirut, Munich, Rouen, Brussels, Shanghai and
Nevada the daring, highly accomplished artist, Arne
Quinze, has constructed fantastic stick installations on
the scale of inhabitable buildings. Possessing every bit
the drama and virtuoso design found in the work of famed
architect Calatrava; yet Quinze���s work evokes a sense
of the filigree, of the delicate and complex in contrast
to Calatrava���s bold angles. His Nevada installation,
Uchronia, cathedral-like in demeanor and scale, inspires
awe in ways that such structures do and yet at the same
time is very much a work of art that one could imagine in
small scale on a table. Any part of it could be separated
from the whole, sustaining itself comfortably.
Fay Jones, the Arkansas architect whose work
(Thorncrown Chapel comes to mind) is much admired for
his use of wood in very disciplined, elegant formation���
particularly when applied to churches���would find
