After dinner drinks in the corner drawing room provided
a particular pleasure. Aesthetically it is one of the most
beautiful residential rooms I have ever been in. The
combination of Baroque, Regency, and other rarified
antiques, comfortable seating, architectural detail,
superb balance of color, the rug, dimmed old-fashioned
lighting from table and floor lamps and perfect scale
make this room an ideal.
We also visited the magnificent chapel which houses the
tomb of the first Duke and Duchess���really a requiem
in stone���designed by William Kent, that dominates the
