Lady Henrietta leads the quest (l), attic corridor (r).
In the east, private family wing of Blenheim Palace,
although the rooms are large and halls monumental,
there is very much a sense of home. Henrietta has
deftly decorated here. Aside from the impressive art
and antiques, there is a layer of personal objects in the
form of photographs, souvenirs, magazines, favorite
pillows, silver, exceedingly comfortable furniture and
general ephemera of daily life that affirms the domestic,
that affirms engaged and active lives. The drinks bottles
and the accompanying paraphernalia are set out, the
bed down comfortable, the fires stoked, the dining table
flowered and impeccably set and my hosts, the Duke
and the Duchess, warm and engaging.
