was especially fascinated
by architecture. That gene
may have come from his
maternal grandfather who
was an architect. But many
of the buildings he drew
were wrought as much
from his own imagination as
from physical observation.
The resolve to become a
painter did not occur until
adulthood. ���I initially thought
I wanted to be a writer,���
Lovejoy says.
Following graduation from
college, Lovejoy not only
completed two plays, one
of which almost made it into
production, but reconciling
his literary and equine
predilections, he produced,
directed, and with a friend,
Joe Wemple, co-wrote the
screenplay for an acclaimed
1978 documentary, Just
Crazy About Horses. An
