H
ouses with names provoke us to look at the buildings they denominate from an emotional as well as an
aesthetic perspective, bringing to their formal reality our
own subjective associations. A case in point is the Star
House in Bnaider, Kuwait, designed by AGi architects,
designers also of an urban house in Kuwait City called
The Secret. Both the Star and the Secret are forcefully modern houses, but their names point to aura as
much as function. A beach house named The Star inevitably causes readers to think of Stella Maris, Star
of the Sea. Stars twinkle: the Star House has a dark
and a bright side.
