A craving of the ruinart family crest at the entrance of the cellars
champagne houses have a more remarkable or suitable
cave for the storage of their champagne. Ruinart bottles
linger for years up to 130 feet below the earth in vast
chalk pits created during the building of Reims and its
fortifications.
This writer once visited Cyclops cave on the remote
Greek island of Irakleia. Cyclops and his denizens were
absent. I look forward to one day celebrating a visit to the
champagne denizens of the Ruinart cave. I very much
hope that they are in residence. There will be no need to
hike in with a bottle. H
