ONLY WATCH serves was Urwerks watch designed by Jean-Vincent Huguenin, its face surmounted by a white gold phoenix rising
from the ashes. Urwerk and Huguenin intended the watch to be a
talisman of hope, drawing upon a symbol found in civilizations as
diverse as those of ancient Greece, China and Japan. More fanciful was Vacheron Constantins Escher-like flight of birds, rendered in
red, silver and flesh tones, as if made of stained glass.
Finally, for those who fancied worlds beyond our own, there was Van
Cleef & Arpels creation, which features planets and stars, a delight
to any aspiring space voyager. Saint-Exupery, eat you heart out! H
