G
eorg Karl Pfahler was arguably the first German
color field painter. His vibrant, methodical, and severe
works can be found in museums around the world, from
the Museum of Modern Art in New York to the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
In 1970, Pfahler was the German representative at the
Venice Biennial, and later exhibited at the Fishback Gallery in New York, curated at the time by his friend Barnett
Newman. More recently, in 2011, Galerie Crone exhibited nine large works on canvas by Pfahler at the Armory
Show.
