Frances��� photographs infuse even the starkest modern houses with a sense of
romanticism, due to the emphasis on nature in the photography, which supplies
the ornamentation for these erstwhile stark houses.
My favorite Frances photographs are the Meier Michigan house and his image
of Le Corbusier���s 1951 Farnsworth House in Illinois. The latter photograph is all
depths and layers. Here the attention is on nature in the form of a lone tree in the
foreground and massed trees behind and at the sides of the house. The cantilevered
