snap a picture in an instant���that suited both my lack of
technical knowledge and my feeling that asking people
to smile for the camera was kind of tacky. (It also makes
for generally boring pictures.) Taking photos with my Minox, however, was so quick and easy that I could capture people being themselves, rather than posing for a
photographer. And no one seemed to object when my
flash went off, on the contrary, they often asked where I
had gotten such a chic little camera. I was already writing my party-hopping column called ���OUT��� for Interview,
and it soon became apparent that taking my own photos was so much simpler than having a sidekick with a
camera, especially at private events where hosts were
reluctant to have a professional photographer intrude on
